I am a great fan of Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh and have read many books on their lives. I think that the Olivier’s were married for 20 years not 23 years to my kneodwlge they married in 1940 and divorced in 1960 as this article points out. Yes Vivien Leigh did miscarry in 1944 during the making of Caesar and Cleopatra but i think her second miscarriage was in 1956 or thereabouts when Olivier was making the Prince and the Showgirl with Marilyn Monroe. Vivien Leigh had the illness bi-polar once called manic-depression for most of her life sadly i think Olivier did try to do what he could to help her but it must have been very hard for him to cope as there was not the treatment like there is now. Catherine Zeta Jones is very brave in coming out and saying she suffers with the same illness. Any depression is hard to cope with i have experienced it myself and i have had relatives who have suffered this horrible illness. I think this is a very good site for young people regarding mental health depression and other mental illnesses should not be hidden away like they have done in the past it should not be a stigma it can happen to anyone even the famous in society.
