Who's Scamming Who?: A Text Exchange about a Sled on Craigslist

(1/7/2015)

As many people who have tried selling something via craigslist know, there are a lot of would-be scammers out there. Some are immediately apparent while others are slightly craftier.

A regular reader of this site (let’s call him “Moe”) who is selling an Arctic Cat Z1 Sno Pro via craigslist had an excellent text exchange with a scammer.

The beauty of it was, Moe recognized the scammer from the outset and immediately started jacking with him.

See for yourself:

All's well that ends well.

The moral of the story: Never trust anyone on craigslist. And, always be a smartass.

Thanks for reading.

I had a similar experience with a boat last summer. Boat looked brand new, which it probably was, on a dealers lot somewhere. The owner died and his wife was selling at a stupid price. She was in Montana and when I sent the money she'd ship me the boat. I offered to drive out and look at it and pay cash, that's when she/he got kinda pissy. Not to sound racist but I read these texts and end up doing it with some kind of accent. Don't know why ! lol
Craigs List is part of my comic relief on a frigid snow less winters day.
I really like the guy's ad that's calling out the people selling sleds/junk for ridiculous prices. ;)

Thats a cool story I had one when I was selling my sled. Couldnt come see the sled because he was working on an offshore oil platform. Messed with him for a little while. Lots of good ones here with pictures 419eater.com

My brother had a similar experience selling his street bike a few years ago. All kinds of weird offers. Me? I've had guys from Kilimanjaro/Prince of Nigeria trying to by sled engines off me, etc. I've messed with them a bit. I like the comic relief here.
