Watch & Ride: Snowfest Film Festival and Fundraiser

(11/20/2014)

Snowfest 2014

For various reasons I don't normally post events on this site, but here's one that caught my eye that I feel the need to mention, if for no other reason than (at this point) I'm planning to attend.

The other reason I'm posting it is that it's a pretty novel idea for a fundraiser benefiting snowmobile clubs.

Happy Birthday C.J. Ramstad (and thanks for great writing like this).

(11/14/2014)

C.J. Ramstad, writer and dreamer.

Today (Nov. 14), would have been C.J. Ramstad's 69th birthday, had he not died in a tragic automobile crash with his son, J.J., in May 2007.

He was (and probably always will be) my favorite writer. One reason why was his great Pops Quiz column in Snowmobile Magazine during early to mid-1980s. As a gift to yourself on C.J.'s birthday, please read this gem from 1984.

It’s November 1993.

While race-prepping the ZR 440 that he sponsored for me to contest the 1994 ISOC cross-country race season, Brian Nelson adds an accessory that will forever change my snowmobile experience and set a template for every snowmobile that I’ve owned since then.

It isn’t some game-changing clutch secret or revolutionary suspension set-up. Nope, far less tantalizing or exotic...(MORE)

Trailside Chatter #1: Making plans

(The thoughtful feedback and comments I get from you guys is one of my favorite things about this website. Beginning this week I'm going to post semi-regular questions that swirl around in my brain, with hopes that you might share your answer.)

53,280.

That was how many minutes until the first cross-country race of the season, from the moment that my son Calvin asked the question recently.

He was sort-of joking when he asked the question, but he was dead-serious about his anticipation of going and competing there. He was making plans... (MORE)
