(11/6/2013)

Arctic Cat racer & engineer Brian Dick. Photo by ArcticInsider.com

Cut from the same cloth as Kirk Hibbert, Larry Coltom, Roger Skime and many others, Arctic Cat's Brian Dick blends equal parts "racer" and "engineer" in his role as High Performance Product Team Leader.

Click to read Part I of this interview with him, in which he discusses the highs and lows of last race season.

"Four Days of Riding, 55 Gallons of Fuel."

(11/5/2013)

Tucker Hibbert: 4 days of riding, 55 gallons of fuel.

“Four days of riding, 55 gallons of fuel.”

Those were the words that accompanied this photo that Tucker Hibbert sent to me this morning, describing only his most recent preseason test session.

Knowing how much more the Monster Energy/Team Arctic racer has already practiced this season compared with previous years, I have a hunch that the season opening ISOC snocross in Duluth, Minn., will be pretty awesome for Arctic Cat fans.

CLICK HERE to watch Tucker (on Facebook) rip a lap at the practice track he’s been tearing up for the past month.

I'm thankful for the extra flotation provided by today's long-track snowmobiles.

I'm thankful for snowmobile dress code.

I'm thankful for the tireless promotion of snowmobiling by individuals, dealers, clubs and the industry.

And I'm thankful it's Friday, November 1, 2013.

Sled Loading Fail: I Can Relate

(10/31/2013)

This video has gotten some good play in the last week or so (at least 359 of the YouTube hits came from my computer).

While I love laughing hysterically at this guy, I also admit that I've experienced a similar indignity.

The HUGE dent in the back of my old van tells the story of a time when I was loading sleds onto my trailer and forgot to lock the trailer coupler onto the ball. The sight of the trailer tongue pile-driving into the van's rear door still makes me cringe and laugh.

So, a I-can-feel-your-pain nod to everyone out there who's suffered the humiliation of a sled loading fail.

Photo Randomness: October 2013

(10/28/2013)

Tucker and Kirk Hibbert ignore the warning

The accumulation of photos is an ongoing situation here at HQ, to the point that I might soon have to buy my first external hard drive because the Commodore 64 will have reached its capacity.

Until that happens, I'm reprising the monthly Random Photo Essay so that you too can enjoy some of the lesser-seen sights in the world of Arctic Cat.

Click for some randomness.

TGIF: snowmobiles, wheels and spunky lady

I'm thankful that snowmobilers come in all stripes.

I'm thankful for rider-forward... triangulated/pyramidal wheel placement... over-the-engine steering and snowmobiles designed specifically for the knees down style of riding that's popular among today's sledders.

And I'm thankful it's Friday, Oct. 25, 2013.

The Scott Watters' Collection: 16 Classic Arctic Cats

(10/21/2013)

Scott Watters Collection of Arctic Cat snowmobilesNo doubt, the coolest aspect of producing ArcticInsider is meeting people who have a passion for Arctic Cat. I never anticipated it when I launched this place four years ago, but this website often works as an electronic introduction to great people that I probably would not have met otherwise.

Scott Watters is one such person I've met this past year, both via the site and in-person. He lives on the northeast side of the Twin Cities, where he restores, rides and takes great pride in a fleet of sweet Arctic Cats.

I'm thankful for the natural transition from bicycles to snowmobiles.

I'm even thankful for the answers to questions that nobody has asked.

And I'm thankful it's Friday, Oct. 18, 2013.

Homecoming: ZedFest at the ZedShed

Arctic Cat party at the Zedshed. Photo by ArcticInsider.com.

Saturday marked what has become an Annual gathering of Arctic Cat fans at the Zedshed, a barn-turned-Arctic-Cat-museum on the outskirts of New Richmond, Wis.

Amazing sleds, fantastic people and conversations about all-things Arctic Cat... it was the best place in the world that I could be on a cold, blustery day in October.

TGIF: The Oct. 11, 2013 Edition

(10/11/2013)

Marv Jorgenson recorded a snowmobile speed record of 142.6 mph in 1982

I'm thankful that on Feb. 7, 1982, then-40-year-old Marv Jorgenson essentially straddled a 250 hp, 1325-cc Kawasaki motorcycle engine and pulled the trigger.

I'm thankful that, instead of blowing Marv to the moon, this snowmobile rocketed down the 1/4-mile ice straight in Rice Lake, Wis., to record a new snowmobile world speed record of 142.6 mph.

I'm thankful that some people have truly monstrous kahunas.

And I'm thankful it's Friday, Oct. 11, 2013.

120 Mod Class Savior: Briggs & Stratton 206 Engine Install

(10/10/2013)

The Briggs & Stratton 206 spec-engine racing program for 120-class sleds proved highly successful last season, with circuits and racers embracing the low-cost, easy-to-use "performance" engine.

To illustrate the simplicity of installing a Briggs 206 engine in an Arctic Cat 120, the company produced this 10-minute video. If you're a parent of a 120-class racer (or a soon-to-be-one), it's definitely worth watching.
