I-500 Cross-Country Recap

(2/15/2018)

USXC I-500 was good for (most) Team Arctic racers in 2018.

The USXC I-500 cross-country race concluded last Saturday at the finish in Bemidji, Minn. After three days and 500 miles of ditch, river and woods, Team Arctic racers notched 11 of 15 class wins, which is pretty remarkable.

Due to a couple untimely mechanical issues, the team didn't capture the overall win.

Alas... that's racing.

Click to see a few pix of (most of) the class winners.

Q&A with 2018 Soo 500 Winners Zach Herfindahl & Wes Selby

(2/4/2018)

Team Arctic Cat Zach Herfindahl and Wes Selby win 2018 Soo 500.

This past weekend, the Team Arctic/Christian Brothers Racing duo of Zach Herfindahl and Wes Selby captured a hard-fought, dramatic win in the 50th Anniversary Soo International 500 enduro. The last 100 or so laps of this race will go down as some of the best racing in the history of an already iconic event, with four sleds in the hunt to win plus an epic battle with Polaris’s Aaron Christensen during the closing laps.

It marked just the third time Arctic Cat has won the Soo, the first coming from Troy DeWald &  Jeff Luenberger in 2010 and the second with Selby and Brian Dick in 2015.

Click to read what it was like for the two winning drivers.

High-Speed-Cold: Pine Lake USXC Cross-Country Opener

(1/6/2018)

Team Arctic dominates 2017-2018 USXC Pine Lake cross-country.

The last weekend of 2017 brought the first USXC cross-country race of the 2018 season, held at its traditional spot on Pine Lake in Gonvick, Minn.

Also known as the Gerald Dyrdahl Memorial Classic, this fine event was once again the showcase for sled speed and handling, racer talent, sled preparation and ridiculously cold temperatures.

Like, it was -750 degrees F, not including the windchill.

I'll spare you the suspense: Team Arctic kicked rear end AGAIN.

Like 17 wins out of 21 possible classes.

Like more than 50% of all the podium positions.

ExtraDomination? DoubleDomination? Something AMAZING Happened at the Jackson Snocross

(12/13/2017)

Team Arctic crushes Jackson Hole Snocross. Photos by Hanson and Lissa.

When Team Arctic snocrossers aboard the incredible ZR 6000R SX race sled grabbed 14 out of 20 class wins and 25 out of 60 podium places at the ISOC National opener in Duluth, I thought they'd reached the top of what was likely to happen.

Boy was I wrong.

And they proved it at the second stop of the season, in Jackson Hole, Wyo., with 15 of 19 class wins and 35 out of 57 podium spots (including a sweep of the podium in six classes)!

A New Beginning: Team Arctic & ZR 6000R SX Conquer Duluth Snocross

(11/29/2017)

Team Arctic Cat and ZR 6000R SX wins ISOC Duluth Snocross. ArcticInsider.com

Thanks to complete overuse and #fakenewz marketing, the word "domination" has lost much of its meaning in world of snowmobile language. But I can't think of a better word to use for Team Arctic's assault on the opening round of the 2017-2018 ISOC National Snocross season in Duluth, Minn., last weekend.

The women and men in green -- aboard the new Arctic Cat ZR 6000R SX snocross race machine -- truly did dominate in a way that I don't remember seeing, ever, in the 26 years of this fine event.

I've been to 'em all, and I've never seen anything like it. The raw numbers prove it: 14 wins (out of 20 possible classes) and 25 of 60 podium positions.

September is "Team Arctic Rules the World" Month thanks to Grass Drag Success

(9/26/2017)

D&D Racing Team Arctic grass drag winners

World leaders from North America and beyond officially declared that September was "Team Arctic Rules the World" month following a series of grass drag racing exploits. So complete and crushing were the performances of Team Green the last several weeks, that grown men wept, the climate refused to change and Democrats and Republicans were talking nicely to each other.

Okay, I might be exaggerating a bit, but the drubbing handed out by Arctic Cat racers has been especially brutal this grass drag season. Click for a brief recap on Hay Days, Excell Park (New York) and the Ohio Snow Bash.

Team Arctic's Dale Lindbeck wins 2017 IWA Pro Stock opener.

First, the good news: In just two weeks the daylight hours will start getting shorter.

Now the great news: You can maximize your summer fun, hang out at the lake AND get some great snowmobile action. Simply hit up one of the IWA watercross races this summer.

If you do, there's a great chance you'll see Team Arctic's Duracell bunny Dale Lindbeck continue his decades-long win streak continue. In fact, he's already scored a win this season!

"Cross-Country" Carrie Longley Showing How It's Done in Alaska XC

(5/2/2017)

Carrie Longley (formerly Goodwin) is an amazing racer!

When it comes to high-speed Alaskan cross-country competition, she's often the fastest racer, regardless of gender. She's on record with a first place overall finish in the Men's Kotz-Kiana 180 XC race, plus a first place overall finish in the Kotzebue 120 XC women's race (3 times, actually!).

At the recent Men's Kotzebue 'Last Chance' 105 XC, Carrie raced a 2004 Firecat 600 in the 600cc class of the race (the 2003-2006 Firecats remain a popular choice amongst XC racers in Northwest Alaska due to their amazing top-speeds).

Carrie got off to a slow start in the 'Last chance' race but eventually passed all of the male Cross-country racers in her class, some of which have placed first overall in the nationally recognized Kotzebue 220 XC race. Carrie caught some huge air along the way and maintained the lead in the 600cc class until she eventually blew her track.

Take a few moments to watch what high-speed lake racing is like in Alaska, as well as the nerves it takes to go wide-open.

For sure watch the wicket tail-stand that occurs at 4:45!

Q&A with 2017 Iron Dog Champs Cory Davis and Ryan Simons

(3/4/2017)

2017 Iron Dog. Champions Cory Davis and Ryan Simons. Photo from Iron Dog facebook.

Last weekend, Team Arctic racers Cory Davis (Right, 28, from Soldotna, AK) and Ryan Simons (34, Camrose, Alberta) won the 2017 Iron Dog cross-country race, a seven-day 2,100-mile romp across the Alaskan wilderness that goes from Anchorage-Nome-Fairbanks.

It was a huge win for the duo, each of whom is a talented and accomplished terrain racer in all forms of competition.

They were kind enough to tell their story of this year’s race, including their perspective on the disqualification of another team.

Winnipeg I-500: The Grand-Daddy Cross-Country Begins

(2/7/2017)

Legend of the Winnipeg I-500.

At 10am Wednesday morning, Feb. 7, 82 brave men and women will begin leaving the starting line on the outskirts of Winnipeg to embark on the 2017 USXC I-500.

It is the most fabled cross-country race in the world; its origins going back to 1966 when a few dozen pioneers rumbled out of this same town on their way to St. Paul, Minn.

There’s something special and magical about snowmobile racers barreling down a ditchline, chasing the snow dust in front of them while they chase the dream of making it to the finish line.

Click to see a few pix of this magic (as well as the starting list for this year’s race). And join me in wishing ALL I-500 competitors the very best of luck.
