ARCTIC CAT LEGACY – TUCKER HIBBERT ROOKIE RECAP 2001-2002 WSA YEARBOOK

With the launch of the Arctic Cat Legacy site within ArcticInsider, my goal is to share something from Arctic Cat’s Marketing, Media or Racing materials every Friday. (Consider this Tucker rookie season recap story a teaser) Tomorrow Ill give you a look at the World Snowmobile Association(WSA) and World Power Sports Association (WPSA) Souvenir Yearbooks from 2000-2008 and Team Arctic’s corresponding ads within them.

Reviewing the 01-02 Yearbook, I got a serious laugh from Tucker’s “Worst Road Trip Experience” response. Sidenote – nice mu-stache, Kirk.

My mom put me on a plane to West Yellowstone, left the airport and went home. The plane never took off (I was 11).” – Tucker Hibbert

Within this yearbook, all racers were asked some random questions and I found Tucker’s response to “Worse Road Trip Experience” quite funny. I texted the photo to Tucker and he responded:

“That was before my mom had a cell phone. She dropped me off, went to eat at Applebees, then drove home (Grand Forks to TRF). I was sitting at the airport trying to figure out what to do. I looked up Fred Olson’s (Hibbert friend/mechanic) phone number in the phone book and called him from a pay phone. Fred drove to Grand Forks (60 miles) and picked me up. At some point they must have met my mom on the cut-across road but never saw her. My mom was at home watching TV when Fred dropped me off. She gave me a “What the Heck” look, and I also said What the Heck and was mad I didn’t get to race!”

I also enjoyed reading the story below highlighting Tucker’s rookie year as a 15yr old. Hard to believe this was 20yrs ago, and now Tucker will be inducted in the Snowmobile Hall of Fame this year!

This was the Team Arctic 8.5×11 ad Arctic Cat ran in the 2001-2002 WSA Yearbook. This ad was also available to consumers in a 24×36 poster.

  1. That’s a great article! I remember Kirk complaining about Tony Harkanen’s high flying style, and then Blair Morgan and his son start dominating races. It was truely a memorable run in snowmobile history. True Legends!
