Fines Double Racing Wins the 2010 SCORE Baja 1000

Arctic Cat 1000 LTD Dominates Longest Off-road Race in North America

The Fines Double Racing Team consisting of Reid Rutherford, Tony Valerio, Benn Vernadakis and Agustin Maduena showed the rest of the Class 26 competition that their Arctic Cat 1000 LTD 4×4 had what it takes to win the 2010 Baja 1000.

Returning as the defending class champions, the team piloted their big Cat to the finish line with an amazing time of thirty-nine hours and twenty-five minutes through the most adverse of conditions, finishing four hours ahead of second place and several sport ATVs and dirtbikes.

Team captain Reid Rutherford said, “We knew our fiercest class competitor would be Mike Penland on his Can-Am 800, but by the time we hit San Felipe, we had a twenty minute lead on second place and never looked back. The Arctic Cat 1000 ran flawlessly for two days of endless punishment. Winning this race is quite a statement for the durability of Arctic Cat ATVs.”

For 2010, the race started in Ensenada, Mexico, crossed the Peninsula twice and ended in the southern city of La Paz totaling 1,067 race miles. The terrain is described as primitive at best and ever-changing with silt, rocks, water crossings, heat, snow and outrageous elevation changes.

  1. Maybe the 1000 4×4 is so fast that his gear flew off? That is a new teammate Fines Double picked up for the race. His name is Agustin Maduena lives in San Felipe and ran 160 miles of the race.

  2. The tires are GBC Dirt Commanders, They are very tough and at the 2009 1000 we never changed a tire. The Rider in the t-shirt is Benn Vernadakis and i Don’t have a clue why he doesn’t have his jersey on. I am sure there is a story there but I haven’t had a chance to get them all yet. there are more pics and info on my fb page Reidrutherford1. some of our pre run t-cats have over 8000 miles on them and we have never had a engine failure.

  3. Agustin is a local near my house down there ive known him my whole life and he is one of the fastest guys ive seen out there
