HOW TO: Arctic Cat G8 Display Outdoor Maps+ Update

Garmin has recently made the Outdoor Maps+ subscription service available for the Arctic Cat G8 display.

If you’re like me, until very recently, I barely knew how to access the navigation screen on the Arctic Cat G8. So, we decided to help guide you in the right direction if you want to improve the mapping on your Arctic Cat snowmobile.

It appears to be a really cool service that provides access to many new “premium maps”.

Including:

  • Topographic map
  • Avalanche Risk Report
  • Night lights
  • Campgrounds
  • Advanced public lands
  • And More

To get the new maps for our Arctic Cat snowmobile, we downloaded the Garmin Tread app on our mobile phone and paired it with the G8 display via Bluetooth. Once we confirmed the app was successfully connected to our device, we purchased a subscription for outdoor maps at a cost of $49.99 per year.

  1. Own a 2025 Catalyst 858 with G8.

Has been a very frustrating experience to say the least. I ride in New Hampshire and Canada . For both areas mentioned I can see my sled on the trail but zero background. And that is in good cell/satellite service and all the screens checked in the menu. Looks like I’m snowmobiling in outer space. There are no gas stations, restaurants, POI’s or places to stay . Just me , my snowmobile and trail.

Reaching out to customer service at Garmin is a lost cause. I email my concerns and they tell me its me , impossible to be a problem ,etc etc., and on top of that every time I respond to them I get a different agent who asks me to repeat all the info I already gave them. Round and round we go….

The map update mentioned has zero application for groomed trail riders like me. Google Play Store is not available so Sled NH and Imotoneige trail apps are not available. That leaves Trakmaps installed by SD card my only available option. At the 1200 dollar price I paid for the G8 option I’m not getting much for my money.

    Please help, Teamgreen

  2. This is response to my previous post.

    Again 2025 ZR858 with G8 gauge.

After two seasons of updates and usage I can now say I love the G8 gauge . There was a user learning curve for sure and the ongoing updates to maps has paid off.

I selected up ahead places which shows Gas stations and restaurants. its quite detailed. I can now estimate how many miles to go with out putting in a destination.

The map screen is configurable to my choices which are total trip and outside temp. The map is detailed and easy to read. I can use the toggle button on the left handelbar while riding and go between the sled and map screen very helpful. You can select menus with a gloved hand. Another bonus.

Overall very pleased and would purchase again.
