INSIDE: THE 2023 ARCTIC CAT RIOT 8000 AND RIOT 9000

The 2023 RIOT is one of the industry’s best 50/50 Trail Crossover snowmobiles due largely to the playful nature of the 146-in. rear skidframe that performs equally well on the trail, as it does when the snow turns deep.

Why To Buy

Because you choose big power in a 50/50 trail crossover that can handle a variety of snow conditions in legal riding areas – the RIOT is built for the ultimate adventure rider playgrounds.

1. CROSS-ACTION – This rear twin rail skidframe is the pinnacle of fun. The uncoupled suspension results in ski lifting smiles.

2. Power – The RIOT line-up combines for nearly 400 horsepower between two of Arctic Cat’s most powerful CTEC engines.

3. Laydown Steering Post – You’ll enjoy the natural handlebar swing of a laydown steering post when ripping down any trail seated, and will be positioned for easy stand-up riding when the snow turns deep.

4. Creature Comfort – The ride just keeps getting better with ATAC adjust-on-the-fly suspension and Electronic Power Steering (9000). You’ll never want to leave the RIOT saddle.

Tech Talk

RIOT hits the perfect blend of crossover performance thanks to a combination of the ARS II front suspension and the uncoupled 146-in. CROSS-ACTION rear suspension. The end result is a playful, smile-inducing ride on the trail, or in deep snow.

All RIOT C-TEC engines are backed by Arctic Cat’s ADAPT CVT System. The ADAPT Drive and Driven clutches are lightweight and employ a compact design with advanced idler system. ADAPT maintains constant belt tension throughout the RPM range resulting in minimized wear and maximum throttle response.

Other key features add to Riot’s signature 50/50 trail crossover versatility, including G2 ProClimb-7 skis, ice scratchers, tether, laydown steering post, mountain seat, 5.5-in. race-height windshield and an adjustable 41.5-in. to 43.5-in. ski stance with sway bar.

For 2023, RIOT has two high-horsepower C-TEC engine options centered around two suspension packages:

The 2023 RIOT 8000 with ATAC shown in Black/Fire Red.

RIOT 8000 – The C-TEC2 794cc twin-cylinder engine, delivers clean responsive performance with leading fuel economy and 165-Class horsepower, push-button engine reverse and electric start.

Seasoned riders have a choice between two suspension packages, the first is a moderately aggressive calibration with manually activated FOX 1.5 ZERO QS3 ski shocks and equally calibrated Arctic Cat IFP 1.5 front- and FOX 2.0 ZERO QS3 rear-track shocks.

And those looking for the ultimate level of premium rider performance can opt for the ATAC adjust on-the-fly suspension system. The innovative ATAC utilizes a thumb-operated button on the left handlebar controls to operate the FOX ZERO iQS3 ski and the rear track shocks, allowing the rider to instantly switch between three factory compression settings (Soft, Medium and Firm), with two additional custom calibration settings (Driver 1 and Driver 2).

The 2023 RIOT 9000 has the incredible power of the Thundercat for trail riding, but has better capability to play in deep snow.

RIOT 9000 – Is a new 2023 RIOT model addition setting the highest standard for power, smoothness and reliability with the C-TEC4 9000-Series Turbo triple-cylinder four-stroke. Experience the rush of 200-plus maximum horsepower at any altitude with the advanced riding technology of ATAC Adjustable On-the-Fly Suspension and Electronic Power Steering.

A look at the RIOT 9000 turbo engine with 200+class horsepower.

The performance-inspired bodywork comes in Black/Medium Green or Black/Fire Red.

  1. Ski doo and Polaris were very limited for 23, but sold out in less than 12 hours is insane limited. Wondering what cats availability will be for 23. And no Yamaha sleds coming out of Japan. Does that mean gone for good or are they just getting set to do there own thing for mid season or next year. Just so curious about cat/Yamahas next move. I’ve seen multiple articles saying arctic cat has some really good stuff coming. JUST WHEN?

    • Talking to a guy who owns a cat dealer, he saying that his rep stated new light weight motor, and a new platform chassis across the board, I believe he said new chassis is confirmed but im not sure on the light weight motor, he also has said bigger engine for cat in the offroad department, it seems like it would be for the atv since cat only makes a 700 but who knows… I believe in cat that they’ll bring out something new, they always shook the competition and they will do it again.

  2. How is a Riot 9000 (21299) $2300 more than a Mtx -le (18,999)(sold out) The only difference I see is the Riot has EPS. I really like the Riot, but 24k all in is a hard pill to swallow.

  3. I like my Riot, but there are two things that would improve it: An ADAPT clutch and power steering.

No 6000 this year? I got to ride both 6000 and 8000 on trails at different times. The 6000 could do 90+ on a nice flat straight. I thought it was a good performer, but maybe it didn’t sell well enough to keep it in the lineup.

  4. How about that 23 Yamaha viper. Remove the name decals, install some 80’s style Pantera logo’s and bingo.
    Theres our 7000

    • Pantera was actually suppose to come back this year in a 7000… media was ready to announce it but cat backed out of the 7000 completely, you can see the pantera on snowtrax video on yamaha/cat 23 lineup video.

  5. Please stop calling 8000 cats 165hp class. There not. 850 competition is 165 class. Cats by themselves in the 150hp class. There hasn’t been a legitimate dyno on the 800 cat 18-current over 154.

  6. Been waiting and waiting for a Riot 9000 !!
But not at this these prices for the few months you can actually ride. This platforms tooling is paid being 11 years in now. Arctic Cat lost the one angle they had for selling sleds…..Price
    Just Insane

  7. Kale,
The spec sheet they gave you is wrong. The don’t have any track choices for next year. Every Riot comes with a 1.6″ track
