Following the renowned Jackson Hole Hill Climb Race weekend, we decided to take a look at the standings, and as for Arctic Cat Snowmobile riders, the Name Kyle Tapio was all over the leaderboards
We reached out to Tapio Racing and asked about the machine that took them up the hill on these amazing runs.
Kyle Tapio showcased his talent by earning first place with his 858 in the Pro Master Stock Class with a time of 1:37.3 and snagging second place in the Pro Masters Improved Stock category with a time of 1:39.9. While also qualifying for the 900 open mod and taking 4th in that class!
TAPIO RACING: This is a 2025 Catalyst 858 165 chassis
- We removed stock fuel tank and built smaller aluminum tank with lower custom seat mount for less weight and more mobility.
- Hood and headlight are gutted out primarily for weight loss.
- Stock engine with BoonDocker turbo kit running 10 to 11psi boost.
- Thomas racing factory rear suspension.
- 154×2.6 track cut to 2″ with 1-1/4 Kold Kutter screws.
AI: What were the main differences you noticed between the Catalyst chassis and the older Arctic Cat chassis you have run up the hill in the past?
TAPIO RACING: The new chassis feels and inspires a ton of confidence when jumping. We love the tube chassis when it comes to working on the sled/building mods.
The straight tunnel is much better for track clearance and long travel suspension. We have had to modify our tunnels for years to get the sled to feel right and get proper clearance for our suspension.
The belt drive has much lower rolling resistance and we have had zero drive belt failures.
AI: Feel any power diffrences between the 858 vs Arctic Cat 800s?
TAPIO RACING: The catalyst chassis seems to have more power but it also seems to put the power to the ground tremendously well.
