Shop Tour: Inside Colt Dellandreas Race Shop

Garage… man-cave… race shop…male crisis-center… No matter what you call the space where people work on their toys, it’s as much a part of these sports as the places we ride.

Below is the race shop of Team Arctic’s Colt Dellandrea.

Located in Kincardine, Ontario, Colt’s shop serves as ground-zero for an oval racing effort aimed at the Champ 440 class in the Eastern Pro Tour.

Like all dedicated racers, Colt (and his dad) spend untold hours in their shop, building and prepping his sled and equipment. In fact, since he’s still recovering from a broken femur (the result of an ATV crash in 2011), Colt spends WAY MORE time in the shop than he’d probably prefer.

The good news is that his sled should be dialed and he’ll likely get the green flag from the doctor to start racing again this season.

Without further adieu, here’s Colt’s shop and his own descriptions of it:

Here’s the view of our shop from the outside/front. That’s the whole thing! It’s not big by any means… 10.5 x 21 feet to be exact.

Inside the shop. Notice the idler wheel “fresh off the mill.”

Here’s another shot of the mill, which we bought this spring along with a lathe. Both have been getting A LOT of use helping to fabricate parts and shaving weight of current parts.

Do a 180-degree turn from the mill and this is what you see.

As you can see from this shot, the race sled is coming together with the front suspension now on (sporting a fresh powder-coating). When this pic was taken the rear suspension was out, while other parts that were sitting on the red tool box were ready to go back on the sled.

ArcticInsider made its way onto the beer fridge in the shop. And of course the shop is equipped with satellite TV.

Thanks for checking out our shop. Wish us luck this season!

  1. Looks Great! When you’re as well organized and well equipped as it shows in that shop, it doesn’t need to be huge to get ‘er done. Now what’s under the towel? Just kiddin, good luck this year.

  2. It’s not the size that matters (shop) it’s how you use it. Looks like you guys are loaded for bear again this year. Go get ’em Colt, have fun and I’m sure you will be making several trips to the winners circle.
