Smooth, Fast, and Focused: Benham Wins Ironwood Snocross

There’s a certain look when a rider is exactly where they’re supposed to be, and Dan Benham showed it at the Mt. Zion AMSOIL Snocross National season opener in Ironwood, Michigan. Back on Arctic Cat with Frattalone Racing, he rode smooth as glass, cool and collected, never forcing the sled. Dialed in off the line, Benham consistently snagged hole shots, with a sled that was on rails and able to hold tight inside start lines; a combination that paid dividends when it mattered most.

“We won this race back in the summer with the whole team putting in work,” Benham said, crediting the preparation behind the result. That groundwork showed on race day, as Benham claimed the Round 2 victory and left Ironwood as the championship points leader.

With the win, Benham’s early-season momentum now puts him in control of the points chase as the series heads into the heart of the schedule.

  1. I watched the heat races online and he was so far ahead the announcer never really covered Benham in first place, they kept the cameras on 2-3rd place. what a impressive start!

  2. Great news. Anyone recall in years past like since around 92, Arctic would do a press release late fall on the race sleds(features, improvements etc) on what people would be running for the season?
Last season they mentioned no new builds so people ran year old sleds.
    What are they running now?

    • Yes, it’s basically a 024. Because they only made 40 units. ISR has a minimum of 100 units so no changes can be made. It would be nice if ISR would lower the limit for the SX sleds to like 50-70. With the sport not having as many drivers like in the past. That way the 3 manufacturers could come out with new sled or just new technology.
