🏁 Quick Facts:

  • One of the first mass-production sleds with electronic fuel injection
  • 700cc Suzuki-built twin with liquid cooling
  • EFI delivered crisp throttle response, altitude compensation, and improved cold starts
  • Preceded Polaris by a year with a smoother launch
  • Helped Arctic Cat dominate the EFI segment throughout the 1990s

While Polaris had teased EFI earlier, Arctic Cat delivered it right in 1991 with the Wildcat 700 EFI and nailed it. The system worked as advertised: clean starts, consistent power, and fewer tuning headaches. It also adjusted automatically for elevation and temperature, making it a hit with mountain riders and trail regulars alike.

The Wildcat platform had already earned respect as a muscle sled, and this upgrade launched Cat into a decade of EFI leadership. The EFI system itself marked a major leap forward in performance and expectations.

  1. The first EFI systems may have had some growing pains, but it’s those first systems that got us where we are today. For many years, I – like many others – was of the “I can fix carbs, but I can’t fix EFI” philosophy. This past winter I picked up an ’06 600 Sabercat with EFI. Twenty years old, and still – with just two pulls on the starter rope – it starts right up and sits there and idles perfectly! No fiddling with the choke and throttle to keep it running until it gets warm. And the throttle response is amazing! It’s definitely made this old, stubborn curmudgeon a believer!

  2. I spring ordered a 93 700 Wildcat 700 EFI for going out to West Yellowstone that winter it was great on trails but off trail was a tank, ski skins helped a little … but ran awesome out west did not like the brakes fade out ..
I was fortunate to have CJ Ramstad come down on a club ride and he brought a ZR 580 and that I was able to ride it I traded that sled off for the Freddy Krueger of sleds 94 Zr700 spring order also. but sure, missed the Efi out west. but have to say the Arctic dealer back then in West Yellowstone was Awesome they jetted/clutched perfect… i have the Power & Glory poster hanging up in my shop

  3. i bought a 91 wildcat 700 carb.
efi wasn’t avail till 92, in afs chassis,
( at least not in canada)

  4. My 1st sled off the Team Arctic race program. 93’ 700 Wildcat EFI. Race dept sent me the only race chip they made. And I only raced it on the grass circuit. That winter I got a call if I was racing it on the ice and said no. Asked if I could ship the chip back because someone needed it for The World Series. I decided to trail ride it that winter, but it wasn’t the best handling. Till I found out that my buddy’s that were racing cross country we’re running 10 inch competition bars. Then it finally turned in the corners.
