Winter in Spring: A Snow Storm with Perfect Timing

It wasn’t looking good for my family’s planned spring break snowmobile trip to Lutsen, Minn., last week. Warm temps and a lack of recent snow suggested that we were going to go sightseeing rather than snowmobiling.

And then Ma Nature dumped 18 inches of snow, and we were treated to some of the most stunning winter visuals (in my) recent memory.

It was so beautiful that my wife even stopped wishing she was in some warm weather, beach location.

Once again, I was reminded how the fortunes of us snowmobilers can change in a moment. Just when we think that nature’s weather app is defective, it delivers exactly what we want with some unseen click-and-swipe.

Enjoy a few pix:

  1. Thanks for the great pictures. Absolutely stunning!! Very envious. I could do that every day. It would be great if it was like that year round. No beaches for me.

Question John: I know it may be way too early but I was wondering if you thought about which 2017 Arctic Cat you may be riding next year?

  2. Yes! after a short visit with a friend of mine, I talked to my assistance track coaches about taking practice for me on Friday and off to Grand Marais! WOW! the trip was amazing with scenery and snow every where, some trails groomed, some just powder, My friend John and his son Evan and I put on 170 miles on Saturday with a required stop at the Trestle Inn for a burger and a pop. Gotta love it! Drove back on Sunday and took my motorcycle for short drive! great way to end a season! 298 days til the trails open again! gotta have something to look forward to!

  3. That is why we are so addicted to this sport, we had an off year but there is always hope for a memory like that .
    Looks like ADK’s,,

  4. Great photos, there’s nothing more beautiful than a blanket of freshly fallen snow! Did you see any other groups out there? It looks like you guys were enjoying your own little piece of heaven.

  5. Great imagery of a family enjoying all that snowmobiling has to offer. I grew up enjoying that type of riding, and still enjoy it today. I have to wonder though…where are the images of your family lining up on a wide open lake to establish whom has the fastest sled with the most top end?

  6. Looks like we just missed ya in Lutsen (Caribou Lodge)! We took the gamble (but not before calling the Trestle Inn first) and it paid off as well even a few days after the weekenders riding. Best Spring break we have had sledding! Absolutely beautiful! Not many fellow sledders during the week of the 21st either so we had the trails almost to ourselves. It was a great way to end the season. Thanks mother nature!!
