SHOF Raffle: Win a Nelson-Built Replica

(9/29/2011)

Nelson-built Arctic Cat El Tigre Cross-Country for SHOF Raffle

Brian Nelson (right) hands the keys of the modernized Arctic Cat El Tigre Cross-Country to Loren Anderson of the SHOF.

For all of you who want (or are building) a modernized vintage Arctic Cat El Tigre Cross-Country, throw down $10 for a chance to win one built by Brian Nelson (right).

You'll be supporting the Snowmobile Hall of Fame in the process. And you'll put an even bigger grin on the face of Loren Anderson (left), a man who has worked tirelessly to build and promote the SHOF for 30 years.

Here's the skinny: Nelson built this modernized replica of his 1978 Winnipeg-winning Cross-Country Cat, then donated it to the SHOF as a fundraiser raffle. Stellar!

Like he did when he built THIS TRIO of race sleds for the USCC Vintage I-500, Nelson added some very sweet, modernized tweaks to the sled featured here. Like a ZR chaincase/hydraulic disc brake. And modern clutches. And a modern 2.52-in. pitch Yokahama track.

And he went through the entire sled with the legendary Nelson/fine-toothed comb, sanding and repainting everything that needed it and detailing stuff like it were his own.

The lucky winner will not only get a turn-key Tiger built and massaged by the man who made it legendary, but he/she will also get to spend a day with Nelson fine-tuning the carburetion and clutching.

All this for a measly $10 winning raffle ticket!

So, CLICK HERE to get tickets at the SHOF Website.

I wish you well. But I also bought a stack of tickets for myself, so I'm hoping for the same good juju.

Yummy.

An original seat that's so clean and perfect that you could eat off of it. Er...maybe not such a good idea, now that I think about it.

Typical Brian Nelson perfection on display here. Note that this is a 440cc liquid twin, not the kitted 340cc that Nelson ran in '78. Also note the Wilwood hydraulic brake.

Modern clutches make a world of difference when it comes to performance and consistency. Ditto for the 2.52-in. pitch track.

Okay, pull out some extra frogskins and see if you'll be the lucky winner.

I bought a slab '0 tickets. I would love to own this sled. What was really cool was Jon Carlson from the Hall of Fame... I handed over the cash for the tickets and was $1 short. I was going to run to a cash machine when Jon said "don't worry about it" and threw in another buck. I went to the cash machine anyway, and when I went back Jon was gone. Because he was so cool, I bought another $40 worth of tickets. Brian is clearly one of the best ever with building and driving a cross-country sled - to own one would be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Thank you Brain and the HOF for giving us all a shot at this sled! VERY COOL!
